Saint Louis University will host the Third Annual Newman Convocation at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at St. Francis Xavier College Church, 3628 Lindell Blvd. at Grand.
Opening the Council: Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy: Telling the Story is the theme for the convocation, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council.
The program involves the participation of the four Catholic theology faculties in the St. Louis area: Aquinas Institute of Theology, Fontbonne University, Kenrick-Glennon Seminary and SLU's departments of theological studies, and mission and ministry. Archbishop Robert Carlson of St. Louis will preside.
Following remarks by Archbishop Carlson, John Padberg, S.J., will present "The Opening Story," a short review of the first session of the Council
The keynote address will be presented by Catherine Vincie, R.S.H.M., of the Aquinas Institute of Theology.
Respondents will include Father Jason Schumer of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary and Daniel Finucane, Ph.D., of SLU's department of theological studies.
The event is free and open to the public. Complimentary parking is available in the University garage at Grand and Laclede.

The Third Annual Newman Convocation is sponsored by the Marchetti Jesuit Endowment and the departments of theological studies and mission and ministry at Saint Louis University, the Aquinas Institute of Theology, Fontbonne University and Kenrick-Glennon Seminary.

Special Note: All faculty from across the university are invited to participate in the opening academic procession at the Newman Convocation. Those in the procession will wear academic attire and gather in the basement of the College Church at 6:40 p.m. (20 minutes prior to the beginning of the ceremony) to prepare.
