Saint Louis University's Hispanic American Leadership Organization and the Cross Cultural Center will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a keynote lecture by Ramona Houston, Ph.D., at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, in room 170 of the Busch Student Center.
Houston's lecture, titled "Black/Brown Relations: Conflict or Coalitions?," will present a historical analysis of the various social, political and economic challenges that have faced both the African American and Latino communities, and will provide insight on if and how these two communities can work together to address common concerns.
This lecture will provide individuals and groups with the knowledge and tools they need to address the racial and cultural walls that prevent diverse groups from working together and suggest ways to break down these barriers in order to develop mutually beneficial relationships. Ultimately, Houston seeks to assist individuals, groups and communities in building more effective organizations that provoke and produce positive social change.
This event is free and open to the public and to the SLU community.
