SLU medical, nursing, physical therapy and athletic training educations students are being recruited as medical volunteers at the second annual Rock ‘n' Roll St. Louis Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 21.
Saint Louis University Hospital and the SLU Sports Medicine team are providing medical support for the event. At least 100 medical volunteers for the race, which begins at Market Street and Tucker Boulevard, are needed from 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with shorter shifts available.
Scott Kaar, M.D., Adnan Cutuk, M.D., and William Mitchell, M.D., SLUCare sports medicine specialists, will oversee the volunteer effort.
Student medical volunteers will work in teams, led by a medical captain, to support the rapid assessment and acute first aid services provided to the event participants. Student medical volunteers will assist the medical teams with patient flow and supply coordination.
Medical volunteers will be assigned to first aid stations throughout the course or to the medical tent just beyond the finish line. Medical volunteers may be assigned to a specific medical captain or can choose to be placed wherever needed.
Those who sign up before Oct. 12 will receive a parking pass in the mail and those who register after Oct. 12 may pick up their race day parking pass at the Health & Fitness Expo, which will be held on Oct. 19-20 at the America Center.
