Book Reading, Discussion

Event Details: 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m., October 08, Xavier Hall, 3733 West Pine Mall, St. Louis, MO, 63108

Join the Saint Louis University Prison Program as it hosts Alan Smith from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, in room 332 of Xavier Hall.

Smith will read a selection from his 2013 book, Her Majesty's Philosophers (which is being adapted for the cinema), and lead a discussion of his experiences in British prisons.

The event is open to all parties interested in incarceration.

Last spring, in a Guardian newspaper column, Smith explained why, after 14 years, he would no longer be teaching in British prisons. It sparked much conversation and reflection on why the SLU Prison Program continues its work at the state prison in Bonne Terre, Mo.

Higher purpose. Greater good.
