Lester Little, Ph.D., the Dwight W. Morrow Professor Emeritus of history at Smith College, will deliver the 2013 Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies Annual Lecture at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, in the Pere Marquette Gallery in DuBourg Hall. A wine and cheese reception will follow.
Little will present "Delivering Wine and Becoming a Saint in the Thirteenth Century: The Story of Alberto."
Little is one of the leading experts on the social history of religion and religious movements in medieval Europe. His numerous publications include Religious Poverty and the Profit Economy (Cornell University, 1978); Liberty, Charity, Fraternity: Lay Religious Confraternities at Bergamo in the Age of the Commune (Smith College, 1988); and Benedictine Maledictions: Liturgical Cursing in Romanesque France (Cornell University, 1993).
He has served as director of the American Academy in Rome, the president of the Medieval Academy of America and the president of the International Union of Institutes of Archaeology, Art History and History in Rome.
