Personal Mentoring for Instructors
One of the greatest benefits that the 1818 ACC Program Office can offer high schools is the resource and expertise of our SLU Faculty Liaisons. Our Liaisons are dedicated members of the SLU community who understand, value, and live out our Jesuit Mission through embodying the ideal of the care of the whole person.
Our dedicated faculty liaisons are here to support, mentor, and develop strong relationships with our high school instructors in order to empower them to be true scholars to their students.
There are ways to help your high school instructor and provide strong mentorship. We highly require the following meetings to develop a strong collegiate relationship with high school instructors and for accreditation purposes:
One on One Meetings - Required
One on one meetings help develop personal professional relationships. They also serve as a medium to address areas of concern, discussion, and needs.
- Accreditation requires that these meetings are documented.
- Download the Liaison/High School Instructor Conference Reporting Form and return a copy to the 1818 ACC Program Office.
Small Group Department Meetings - Required
Small Group Departmental Meetings allow for a cohort to meet with the Faculty Liaison to discuss department related issues. As adjuncts, the instructors have a vested interest into department operations and possible academic changes. These meetings allow a forum to discuss changes from the University and brainstorm changes to make to the way the dual credit program operates in delivering the courses.
- Accreditation requires documentation of these meetings.
- Download the Small Group Meeting Summary Form to record notes and return a copy to the 1818 ACC Program Office.
Classroom Visits - Required
Classroom visits allow liaisons to ensure the quality and effectiveness of course offerings at the high school compared to the university campus offerings.
Professional Development Days - Required
Professional Development Days ensure a medium to discuss course content, effective instruction methods, and other subject specific information.
- Accreditation requires these days on an annual basis.
- Get help with planning your professional development day.
Other helpful ways to provide mentorship that are not required include:
- Meet early with new instructors and make yourself available as a resource
- Provide discipline specific orientation for new instructors
- Attend Annual Orientation, Pre-Service Conferences, and Annual Appreciation Dinner (Dates posted on 1818 ACC Calendar)
- Be a brand champion of 1818 ACC to your high schools
Professional Development Days
Professional Development days are key to ensuring that our adjuncts effectively gain the expertise to meet the expectations of how to deliver the course at the high school. As well, these days serve as a way to develop professional relationships while offering a question and answer form regarding course content and other important aspects to their specific discipline.
The 1818 ACC Program Office provides support in planning these days and provides the financing for the event.
Please review the matrix below as you begin to plan your next event, and note the expense budget for an event is capped at $12 per person in attendance.
