SLU Celebrates Class of 2015, One of Biggest, Brightest in History
Saint Louis University has enrolled one of its largest and brightest classes in history, welcoming more than 1,600 freshmen and 400 transfer students.
The class of 2015 was celebrated during SLU’s annual New Student Convocation Friday at Chaifetz Arena.
University President Lawrence Biondi, S.J., told the class that the more than 2,700 people in attendance were pleased to be there to welcome them to their new home.
“We are excited because we know that you will rise to your intellectual capacity, realize your full potential as SLU students, as Billikens,” Biondi said. “And your SLU community is grateful and honored that you and your family have entrusted your education to us.”
Mark and Jane Schwendeman are among those families. Their son, Jon Schwendeman, a senior in SLU’s John Cook School of Business, shared his SLU experiences as this year’s student speaker. His younger brother, Michael, is a new a Billiken.
“It has been awesome being your older brother,” Jon told Michael. “I cannot wait to get to know you even better as we grow together as Billiken brothers. The same goes for all of you. You never know where your next Billiken brother or sister will come from. They will become your Billiken family. They will be the ones shaping your SLU memories. Your memories and the relationships you create here will last forever.”
After the ceremony concluded, the new students and their families were invited to the arena floor to meet with Biondi, the vice presidents, deans and faculty.
