Neurology, Psychiatry Joint Grand Rounds

The Division of Neurology and Psychiatry will host joint grand rounds from 8 to 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in Lecture Hall 1 of Schwitalla Hall.

Jothika Manepalli, M.D. will present "Post Stroke Neuropsychiatric Disorders." Manepalli is board certified in general and geriatric psychiatry. She trained in general psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C., and at Washington University School of Medicine. She completed a geriatric psychiatry fellowship at the School of Medicine. She has been practicing geriatric psychiatry since 1990.

She is actively involved in patient care, teaching and clinical research. She specializes in geriatric mood and anxiety disorders and in the affective symptoms of dementia. She has special interest in domestic violence, pain management and palliative care. Manepalli uses a holistic approach when treating her patients and is culturally sensitive in the care of her patients. She is active in teaching and mentoring medical students, residents and fellows.

Manepalli has published numerous articles and is a speaker for symposiums and conferences in geriatric psychiatry. She has a keen interest in establishing and promoting geriatric psychiatry, as it is one of the most-needed fields in the future and for a healthy 2050.

Manepalli has received the Caring Physician Award from Saint Louis University Hospital. She is recognized as a Distinguished Fellow from the American Psychiatric Association, "Top Doctors in America," "Best Doctor in St. Louis" and in the Cambridge Who's Who in America.

She is active in the St. Louis community and does extensive volunteer work. She devotes her time and effort in educating and empowering women, including educating the South Asian community on the consequences and effects of Family and domestic violence on the health and the future of the community.

She has "Yellow Rose Award" from Zonta for women leadership and a "Workplace Leader Award" from the YWCA. She is the founder of SAWERAA a domestic violence advocacy organization.
