The second annual SLU Bridge Lecture, which centers the study of Black womanhood in Black History and Women's History Months, will be presented by Deirdre Cooper Owens, Ph.D., at 1 p.m. Friday, March 1, in the Sinquefield Room in DuBourg Hall.

Cooper Owens will discuss "Defining Blackness and Inferiority: An Examination of Nineteenth-Century American Gynecology," which will broaden the current understandings of the role enslaved and poor Irish-immigrant women played as medical subjects in groundbreaking medical surgeries.

Higher purpose. Greater good.
