Each year on Ash Wednesday, we gather to have the sign of the cross smudged on our foreheads as a reminder that dust returns to dust and that we are called to live in the light of Christ.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a season of renewal and a time when we are invited to deepen and strengthen our relationship with God in an intentional way, in communion with the whole Church.
During Lent, we engage in the practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving in preparation for living more fully the Paschal mystery we celebrate anew each Easter.
This year, Ash Wednesday falls on March 9
