The event is presented by the Department of Theological Studies and the Theology Club. The event is open to faculty, staff, students and the general public.
Professor Pomplun will discuss his recent book, Jesuit on the Roof of the World, the first full-length study of the 18th-century Italian Jesuit Ippolito Desideri and his mission to Tibet.
Desideri was the first Christian intellectual to seriously engage Tibetan Buddhism and begin an inter-religious dialogue. From letters, journals and theological tracts, Pomplun recounts Desideri's physical and spiritual journey at the convergence of East and West, and medieval and modern.
