'Inocente' Movie Screening

Event Details: 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., April 29, Wool Center, 3545 Lindell Blvd, St. Louis, MO, 63103

Inocente, the subject of the Academy Award-Winning documentary Inocente, will screen her film at 7 p.m. Monday, April 29, in the Wool Ballroom at Busch Student Center.

The film tells the story of Inocente's coming of age as an artist and her simultaneous struggle with homelessness as an undocumented immigrant. Both Inocente and Matt D'Arrigo, executive director of A Reason to Survive (ARTS), will be on hand for a Q&A session following the screening. The event is free and open to the public. Some of Inocente's artwork will also be available for purchase.

ARTS is the San Diego nonprofit that worked with Inocente to develop her passion for art and is dedicated to providing, supporting and advocating for arts programs that heal, inspire and empower youth facing adversity.

"Immigration, homelessness, and the lack of arts education are not just issues we face in San Diego," said D'Arrigo. "They affect cities and communities across the country. The film and Academy Award has put a personal face and story to these issues and we're thrilled to come to St. Louis to share this story, talk about the issues, and spend time with those working on and affected by the issues."

The event is being sponsored by the School of Social Work with the hope that the film and speakers will stimulate community dialogue about creative ways to address complex issues such as chronic homelessness, the plight of undocumented children and the decline of funding for the arts.

It is the mission of the School of Social Work to prepare students for professional practice with a commitment to social justice and the empowerment of vulnerable and oppressed populations. The School strives for a dynamic community of learning with excellence in teaching, research, and service.

Higher purpose. Greater good.
