The SLU Chapter of Sigma Xi International Scientific Society and the International Faculty and Staff Association (IFSA) will co-sponsor the Sigma Xi/IFSA Research Symposium and Spring Meeting from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, in the Sinquefield Stateroom in DuBourg Hall.
Approximately 50 research posters from undergraduate and graduate students, representing different disciplines will be presented.
The areas for presentation include mathematics, physical science, biological science, social science, and engineering.
The program also will include three short talks by experts about the crisis in Japan following the earthquakes, tsunami, and nuclear power plant explosions. The speakers include Linda Warren, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences; Chikako Usui, Ph.D. , president of the Japan-American Society in St. Louis and associate professor in the Department of Sociology at UMSL; and Nghi Nguhen, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Radiology. The talks will begin around 5 p.m.
A total of six awards will be presented: one outstanding undergraduate and one graduate student poster in each of the three areas (social science, biological science, and physical science).
