Women's and Gender Studies Panel Discussion

The Women's and Gender Studies program will host a panel discussion with guest speaker Laura Kramer, Ph.D., "What Do Women's Studies and Service Learning Offer Each Other?" from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Il Monastero. A reception dinner will follow. All are welcome.

Interested attendees need to RSVP to Gretchen Arnold at by Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Kramer is professor emerita of sociology at Montclair State University and was recently the winner of the "Sociologists for Women in Society Feminist Activism Award," which is sponsoring her visit to SLU.

Kramer has written books and articles about the sociology of gender, and has worked with the National Science Foundation on strategies to recruit and retain women in the STEM fields.

Kramer and the panelists will discuss ways in which service learning is currently being used in women's studies and whether or not there is a distinctive women's studies approach.
