Students will participate in an interactive human cadaver demonstration at the Practical Anatomy facility. The demonstration will expose students to the physiological and anatomic relationships of the major organ systems of the human body and describe to them how those systems can be affected by disease.
The body consists of a numerous organ systems that are interrelated. The function and interaction of these systems is closely regulated. In basic terms disease results in system deregulation. Finally, disease in one organ system will inevitably negatively impact other organ systems.
The cadaver demonstrations are a great way to give a hands on experience to high school juniors and seniors to the anatomy of the human body coupled with an in depth discussion surrounding its structure and function. Demonstrations are given by medical students and professionals in health careers. Presenters describe the structures and functions of the human anatomy using pre-dissected cadavers and anatomical specimens. There will be a focus on pathologies present in the specimens with an emphasis on preventive measures to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Students will have a chance to put on gloves and explore the anatomy with the guidance of the presenters. Presenters have a wealth of information in anatomy and medicine so please come prepared with questions! The presentation will last an hour and fifteen minutes. Hands-on cadaver demonstrations are available on the dates noted on the registration page.
We also offer guided student dissections of Pig Hearts, Sheep Brains, and Pig Eyes. These programs are perfect for schools that are not equipped to perform these dissections within their own facilities. Students will learn about the correlating human structures during their dissection of the animal specimens. We will provide a dissection instructor that will guide and teach the students throughout the program. The program will last an hour and fifteen minutes and available dates are noted on the registration page.
We also have a large event space available on the third floor where students can eat lunch if needed.
Please note: Forensic Medicine and Sports Medicine Cadaver Demonstrations are only available as Distance Learning Programs.
