Berton R. Moed, M.D. (’76), is the School of Medicine’s first Hansjörg Wyss Endowed Chair in Orthopaedic Surgery. Moed came to SLU in 2003 to serve as chair and professor of the department of orthopaedic surgery. Since then, the department has experienced growth in research output, the number of full-time faculty and practice locations, and profitability.
Scott W. Fosko, M.D., chairman of dermatology has been elected president of the American College of Mohs Surgery for 2013-2014, after serving in other leadership roles for the organization since 2011. More than 1,200 surgeons who have received advanced, fellowship training in Mohs surgery, pathology and reconstructive surgery are members of the college.
Miguel Paniagua, M.D., associate professor and director of the internal medicine residency program, has been elected to serve as an at-large member of the National Board of Medical Examiners' Executive Board. A subspecialist in geriatric medicine and hospice and palliative medicine, Paniagua is the recipient of numerous awards for outstanding teaching, including the Golden Apple Award and Distinguished Teacher Award for Humanism.
