Legacy
of Heath Care:
SLU Doctor Touches Lives of Orphans in
Central Africa
Tim Rice, M.D., leads a
double life. For 50 weeks out of every
year, he is a doctor and a professor of
pediatrics and internal medicine at Saint
Louis University where he touches the
lives of individuals every day. But for
the other two weeks of the year, he is
a rock star - at least that's how he's
treated by the Congolese community where
he has build a self-sustaining medical
clinic.

Child
Dropped from Burning Building Grows into
Track Phenom
SLU freshman Brittney Cloudy leaps
to success at SLU
Saint Louis University track-and-field
phenomenon Brittney Cloudy made her first
"leap" when she was just 10
months old.
The
date was Dec. 7, 1990. Cloudy, a native
of St. Louis, was trapped in a house that
was engulfed in flames. The tragic fire
ultimately killed four individuals, but
Cloudy's mother saved her infant daughter
with some quick thinking.

Her mother ran to the window and yelled out for someone
to catch her baby. A passerby
came to the rescue and caught baby Cloudy. Fortunately,
her mother was saved by firefighters.
Nearly
two decades later after her brush with disaster, Brittney
Cloudy has grown up to become a track-and-field standout
at Saint Louis University. The freshman currently
holds the indoor and outdoor school record in the
triple jump.
