Saint Louis University American Studies Degree Overview
American studies is one of the most exciting and challenging of all the humanities and social science disciplines. If you choose this major, you'll be prepared for careers that emphasize creativity, writing, analysis, communication, research and civic engagement. Saint Louis University's American studies department takes an interdisciplinary approach to the historical study of the cultures of the United States, and to the critical analysis of their ongoing evolution.

What You'll Learn in SLU's American Studies Program
Saint Louis University's American studies major consists of 30 total credit hours: nine credit hours from the department core, plus 21 additional credit hours selected either from American Studies or related fields. Exceptional students may also apply for SLU's accelerated five-year Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in American studies and Master of Arts (M.A.) in American studies in their junior year.
SLU's American studies minor consists of 18 total credit hours: three credit hours from the department core, plus 15 additional credit hours selected either from American studies or from courses in other departments. Recent undergraduate courses offered to SLU's American studies students include: American Places, American Decades, Cold War Culture, The 1960s, The Decade of Crisis, Museum Studies, Making the American City, Religion and American Culture, and Mixed-Race America.
