Celebrate Generosity Week to Wrap Up With Cake

The University's second annual event to recognize gifts made by students, faculty and staff will end with cake and a chance for students to send thank-you messages to donors.

After a series of fun events designed to thank faculty, staff and student donors for their generosity to SLU, Celebrate Generosity Week will wrap up Friday with a sweet treat.

Free cake — generously donated by Fresh Gatherings, Clayton Bakery and Pastries, Lubeley's Bakery, Hank's Cheesecake, Slice of Heaven and Russell's Bakery — will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 28, in the Busch Student Center and the Health Sciences Education Union. Students are invited to sign thank-you cards or record thank-you video messages for donors; participating students will be eligible to win a Billiken Prize Pack.

The celebration also marks the University's Icing on the Cake Day, the symbolic day when tuition dollars are exhausted and donor support kicks in to make the remainder of the academic year possible. Tuition covers just 73 percent of what it costs to educate one student, so donor support is required to help supplement the difference.

"Since donors help to support tuition for students, they are the icing on the cake of their SLU experience," said LaVerne Robinson, assistant director of Giving Programs.

Higher purpose. Greater good.
