Saint Louis University's chapter of Alpha Sigma Nu, the national honor society of the Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States, recently inducted more than 100 students and four honorary members, April 10, 2011. Dr. Ron Modras, SLU Theological Studies, addressed the inductees, and discussed "Continuing the Jesuit Tradition behind Barbed Wire."
Membership in Alpha Sigma Nu is one of the highest honors given on a Jesuit campus and unique among honor societies. The organization works to identify students who demonstrate an intelligent appreciation of, and commitment to, ideals of Jesuit education, focusing on scholarship, loyalty and service.
Student inductees were nominated and selected from all levels - undergraduate, graduate and professional - and from all colleges and schools. Four honorary members, recognized for their scholarship, loyalty and service to the University, and selected by Fr. Lawrence Biondi, S. J., President of Saint Louis University, were also inducted.
The four new honorary members are: Philip Alderson, M. D., vice president Health Sciences and Dean of the School of Medicine; David Meconi, S. J., faculty, Theological Studies; Teri Murray, Ph.D., dean of the School of Nursing, and Kenneth Parker, Ph. D., faculty, Theological Studies.
