Department of Physician Assistant Education Names New Chair

New chair Richard Coulson, Ph.D., is an experienced teacher and researcher and will bring an impressive and diverse higher education background to the department.

Richard Coulson, Ph.D., has been appointed chair of the Department of Physician Assistant Education at Doisy College of Health Sciences.

Coulson has considerable experience in both teaching and research. Prior to joining the Doisy College of Health Sciences, Coulson was an adjunct professor of physiology at Gordon College in Barnesville, Ga.

He brings an impressive and diverse higher education background to the department. Coulson has served previously as the coordinator for evaluation and assessment at the Commonwealth Medical College; director of university assessment and the center for instructional development at Clayton State University; and director of university assessment, professor of physiology and medical education and curriculum director in cardiovascular medicine at the School of Medicine at Southern Illinois University

His extensive history of authored and co-authored scientific publications covers the areas of cardiovascular physiology, biophysics, general physiology, education, cognitive science, pharmacology, law and administrative justice. Coulson is an active reviewer of scholarly journals and held a variety of professional organization offices.

Coulson received his doctorate in physiology and biomedical electronics from the University of Toronto, his master's of science degree in physiology and biophysics from the University of Alberta, and his bachelor's of science in biology and philosophy from the University of Calgary. He also received a physiology fellowship from University College London and a cardiology fellowship from Temple University.
