Vatican Film Library Announces Mellon Fellows

The Vatican Film Library in the University Libraries Special Collections has announced three new research fellows in its Mellon Fellowship Program for spring and early summer of 2013.

These short-term fellowships are offered to support research using the Vatican Film Library's extensive microfilm collections of medieval and Renaissance manuscripts from the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana and other libraries, as well as Jesuit historical documents from a variety of archives in Italy, Spain, and South, Central and North America. Fellows also benefit from the VFL's outstanding reference collection in manuscript studies. Scholars study original manuscripts for a variety of purposes - in order to discover new ideas and information from unpublished texts and images or to test received knowledge and develop new hypotheses directly from the sources. In this way, the Vatican Film Library advances fundamental research in the humanities.

New Vatican Film Library Mellon Fellows for spring and early summer 2013:

  • Brian Long (University of Notre Dame)
"Towards the Cultural History of Twelfth-Century Translation"
    March 6-29

  • Caroline Wilky (University of Notre Dame)
"Text as Creation: Universal History Writing in Thirteenth-Century France"

Since 1976, this program has been supported by the generosity of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, allowing scholars from around the world to take advantage of Saint Louis University's unique research collections.
