Saint Louis University will partner with Casa de Salud to host the Liga Latino Americana de Futbol soccer playoffs on Oct. 30 and Nov. 6 at the new Medical Center Stadium.
"Sports are a great way to bring people together and raise awareness of the services Casa offers to the Hispanic community," said Jorge Riopedre, executive director of Casa de Salud. "We are thrilled that Saint Louis University is making its beautiful new facility available to us to reach out to St. Louis Latinos and let them know we are here to help them gain access to low-cost, high-quality clinical and mental healthcare."
"From the very beginning, it was our intention to build a facility that the greater St. Louis community could enjoy, so we're excited that we're able to host these important matches in our new outdoor stadium," said Clayton Berry, assistant vice president for communications at Saint Louis University. "Plus, we're pleased to once again partner with Casa de Salud in reaching out to the local Hispanic population. This is truly a win-win for SLU."
Casa will have a booth at the field where players, their families and fans can find out more about Casa's clinical and mental health services for the Latino community. In addition, the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training will have physical therapists on hand to answer questions and provide information about their services offered through Casa de Salud.
The Liga Latino Americana de Futbol has been around for twenty years and provides an opportunity for individuals to get involved in an organized soccer league. The league draws players primarily from Mexico, Africa, Europe and the United States, with 22 players on each of the league's 26 teams. The regular season, which runs from mid-April to the end of October, is played at soccer fields in the City of St. Louis.
This year, the semifinals and finals will be played at the Medical Center Stadium. The semifinals will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, Oct. 30, with the third place game and the championship match will be held at 10 a.m. and noon, respectively, Sunday, Nov. 6. Admission is free.
