New Dean Named for University Libraries
David Cassens, who has served as interim university librarian since June 2012, will bring more than 20 years of experience to the position.
The Office of Academic Affairs has announced David Cassens' promotion to dean for University Libraries. Cassens has served as interim university librarian since June 2012.
Cassens is an experienced academic library leader who combines strong organizational management abilities with effective team building skills to offer a practical vision for the future of libraries and their central role in the academic mission of Saint Louis University. Prior to the most recent role as interim librarian, he served as assistant university librarian for Administration and director of Pius XII Memorial Library, and has worked at Saint Louis University for nearly fifteen years.
He has more than twenty years of experience in library management, facility planning, finances, program evaluation and collection development. He also has eighteen years of experience in fundraising, marketing, and public relations in libraries, higher education and various cultural institutions. Cassens held a key leadership role in the recent renovation of Pius Library, working closely with the Student Government Association, faculty members and Facilities Services.
While serving as interim university librarian, he worked with faculty and staff to restructure the library departments to help reduce staff costs and meet student and faculty information service demands, while fully supporting the curricula and research agenda of the University.
Cassens holds the terminal degree of master of library and Information Science from the University of Illinois and a Master of Arts in History from SIUE.
