SLU Community Invited to Participate in Belize SummitEvent Details: August 05 - August 07
Registration for the Belize Summit, which will be held Aug. 5-7 in the Center for Global Citizenship, will close Tuesday, July 22.
Numerous leaders from Belize will be traveling to St. Louis to highlight needs and explore collaborations, including administration from St. Martin's parish and school, the Ministry of Catholic Education and St. John's College, as well as leadership from the Catholic church and Jesuits in Belize. Local community members and businesses will also be participating, as part of the larger Operation Toucan efforts.
Campus departments who are interested in assisting with Saint Louis University's efforts in Belize are invited to send faculty, students and staff to participate. Information on registration and the agenda for the summit can be found at the Center for Service and Community Engagement website.
In April, the University and Project Belize Task Force announced a new partnership with St. Martin de Porres School and Parish, located in Belize City, Belize. Both are Jesuit institutions. The school, consisting of nearly 700 children in grades pre-K through eighth, is located in an impoverished area of the city.
In late May, a lead university team traveled to Belize for a needs assessment of the parish and school, as well as to forge relationships with local officials.
A Christmas break service trip has also been announced for students, faculty and staff to take place Dec. 29 through Jan. 9.
