SLUCare Clinical Group Goes Paperless
The department of surgery, divisions of general surgery, trauma and urology are the most recent divisions in the SLUCare practice to join Project ARK (Automated Record Keeping) and make the transition from paper to electronic health records.
The divisions within the department, which see patients at the Doctors Office Building, West Pavilion, St. Mary's and St. Anthony's, became the 15th group within SLUCare to begin using the EpicCare system on Tuesday, Sept. 27.
A total of 11 faculty, 30 residents and 20 staff in the department, will use the EHR system. The department typically sees 1,450 patients a month.
Rebecca Knutson and Sharon Fulks will lead the team in making the conversion and by assisting providers and staff in migrating old patient care documentation, adapting and evolving to the new electronic health record, and utilizing MyChart functionality. On-site floor support will be available through Oct. 14.
The new system features state-of-the-art electronic documentation, communication, prescription and medical decision support tools.
In 2007, SLUCare began its transition from paper to electronic health records as part of a multi-million dollar project. The project will be complete in 2014.
