Shontae Williams was hired in August 2006 as an administrative assistant in the Department of Chemistry. She is now an Administrative Assistant I within the same department. It’s all about treating people with respect and dignity.

Shontae Williams

Shontae believes that the most important part of her work is to provide excellent customer service. She believes that this goes beyond the service provided to people outside of Saint Louis University, but it also includes her co-workers and other associates of the university. She says that, “going above and beyond my duties is important because I know that how I interact with people determines if their experience at SLU will be remembered as pleasant or horrible. In that sense, I know that I am a direct part of how people see and experience SLU.” Daily, she makes sure that any drama or stress that goes on in her life does not affect how she treats people in the workplace. “It’s all about treating people with respect and dignity.”

Scott Martin, Chair of the Department of Chemistry, said, "Shontae is a key part of our department. We teach over 12,000 credit hours a year and she interfaces with any student who comes to our main office for questions, help, etc (and there are a lot of students that seek out help). She really is the face of our department. She strives to help students and faculty and she is always polite and positive in these interactions. She also is a big help to me in my chair role and helps the department run smoothly. I really appreciate her efforts."

Shontae is the proud mother of two, 12-year-old Cherrice and seven-year-old Arthur. She is also the wife of Arthur Williams, who happens to be an assistant supervisor in custodial services at Saint Louis University. She will be married for 20 years in October 2018. She says, “I married that love of my life. I’m happy that we chose each other, and that we were able to create two beautiful, intelligent, and funny kiddos together.” Shontae also obtained her Bachelors of Art in Organizational Studies at Saint Louis University School of Professional Studies in December 2016. Now, she spends her evening listening to audiobooks, playing Mindcraft with her children, or hanging out with her siblings. She also likes to raise money for charities such as Susan G. Komen, Toys for Tots, and American Red Cross.
