Education, Poverty, & the Kingdom of God: What's the Connection?

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me,because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind,to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor" (Luke 4:18-19)

Jesus spent so much of his time on earth with the poor, the marginalized, the broken - people who had been rejected by society. He said he came to proclaim good news and freedom to them. The question is, "What does that mean for us now?"

Is there any connection at all between the Jesus of 2000 years ago and the poverty of today? If so, why aren't more of his followers DOING anything about the problems?

Join InterVarsity Christian Fellowship for an interactive night of roundtable discussions on the issues of international poverty, education, empowerment, and Real Justice. Snacks will be provided - bring a friend!
