Seth's SLU Story
How Seth Teel found a major and career success at SLU.
Success at Saint Louis University
"SLU really pushed you to be better than you were when you came in," he says.
Seth got very involved in the community, he says. He immersed himself in the city as soon as he left grad school, volunteering for civic organization and non-profits. His choice of college eventually had a role in his future career.
"I became a fan of pubic transportation at SLU," he says, noting that he started to take the bus and Metrolink from the Grand Center station, which sits in the middle of SLU's campus. "It became second nature."
A Career Out of College
Now, Seth is the associate director of Citizens for Modern Transit in St. Louis, a non-profit group that works to expand the Metrolink.Public transportation is important to keep the region competitive globally, boosting economic development and attracting and retaining people to the area, Teel says. He meets with community members and municipal leaders to encourage them to invest in the system.
St. Louis is big enough to need public transportation, but small enough to stand out when it comes to making a difference, he says. "If someone comes here and decides to excel, that's recognized," he says. "One of the great things about SLU is that it is in the middle of the city and so stepping across those campus boundaries allows you to engage and grow your roots here in St. Louis."
