The Annual Rev. Edward J. Drummond, SJ, Lecture in Health Care Ethics
This year’s Drummond Lecturer will be Edmund Pellegrino, M.D., M.A.C.P. Dr. Pellegrino has had a long and storied career in the field of bioethics. He is the current Chairman of the President's Council on Bioethics and is Professor Emeritus of Medicine and Medical Ethics at the Center for Clinical Medical Ethics, Georgetown University Medical Center.
Dr. Pellegrino was formerly the John Carroll Professor of Medicine and Medical Ethics and the director of the Kennedy Institute of Ethics, the Center for the Advanced Study of Ethics at Georgetown University and the Center for Clinical Bioethics. Dr. Pellegrino is a Master of the American College of Physicians, Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, and recipient of fifty honorary doctorates in addition to other honors and awards including the Benjamin Rush Award from the American Medical Association, the Abraham Flexner Award of the Association of American Medical Colleges, and the Laetare Award of the University of Notre Dame.
Dr. Pellegrino is the author of over 575 published items in medical science, philosophy, and ethics and is a member of numerous editorial boards. As founding editor of the Journal of Medicine and Philosophy, Dr. Pellegrino has authored or co-authored more than 20 books.
His lecture, drawing from his 60+ years serving in both medical and university settings, will be the latest in the Annual Rev. Edward J. Drummond, SJ, Lecture in Health Care Ethics, which honors the memory of Saint Louis University's first medical center vice-president. It will take place during the Department of Internal Medicine’s Grand Rounds at 7:30 a.m. on April 3, 2009, in the Learning Resource Center Auditorium, Saint Louis University Health Sciences Campus.
