30th Anniversary Symposium
On November 6 and 7, 2009, the Albert Gnaegi Center for Health Care Ethics will host a 30th Anniversary Symposium. Click the link below for more information and the program for the two-day event which will feature the 2009 Bander Endowed Lecture, a poster session, paper presentations by alumni and faculty and presentations on ethics in end-of-life care.

Celebrating a New Name
On September 25, 2009 the Center of Health Care Ethics was named the "Albert Gnaegi Center for Health Care Ethics." Dr. Albert GnaegiGnaegi (pronounced "g'nay-gi") has been a dedicated friend and supporter of Saint Louis University for many years. The Swiss lawyer and businessman serves as Chairman of the Mäder Family Foundation, which endowed the "Hubert Mäder Chair of Health Care Ethics."

Since 2007, Dr. Gnaegi has served as chairman of the Board of Directors of SAM Group Holding AG in Zurich as well as chairman of Forbo Holding Ltd. Since 1980, he has served on the Board of Trustees of Sanitas Hospital in Zurich and has been President of Sanitas since 2002.

PhD Program
The Center offers a offers a PhD program in health care ethics and three dual-degree programs, a MD/PhD, JD/PhD and a MA(Theology)/PhD. These degrees, coupled with the Certificate in Empirical Research Methods and Concentrations in Research Ethics and the Catholic Tradition ensure that students can tailor their education to suit their needs and goals.

CHCE administers a Certificate in Clinical Bioethics that features graduate-level coursework designed for the needs of laypeople involved with clinical ethics in their home institutions.
