Center Leads 'Ends of Life' Symposium

Smolarz AuditoriumThe Albert Gnaegi Center for Health Care Ethics cosponsored a symposium with the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Tel Aviv University, Isreal. "The Ends of Life: Deepening Reflection on the Ethical Issues at the Beginning and End of Life," was held June 8-10 at Tel Aviv University. The symposium was developed and organized by George Khushf, Ph.D., from the University of South Carolina; Shai Lavi, Ph.D., from Tel Aviv University; and Jeffrey Bishop, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Center for Health Care Ethics, out of a desire to enrich the bioethics dialog.

Harold Braswell, PhD Joins CHCE

 

Harold Braswell, PhDThe Albert Gnaegi Center for Health Care Ethics hired Harold Braswell, PhD to serve as Assistant Professor. Braswell received his PhD from Emory University's Graduate Institute of the Liberal Arts in 2014. “In our search process,” said Jeffrey Bishop, Center Director, “we were looking for someone that understood the normative dimension of health care ethics, but also had a skill set in empirical work. Harold was a perfect fit.”

Faculty and Students Give Medicine & Religion Conference Accolades

 

The Third Annual Conference on Medicine & Religion was held in Chicago during the first week of March, 2014. The theme for the conference, “Responding to the Limits and Possibilities of the Body,” sought to address issues related to the intersection of religion and health care by inviting professionals and scholars to reflect on important questions about human embodiment.

Undergraduate Minor Research Conference a Success

 

CHCE Minor Research ConferenceThe Center for Health Care Ethics hosted the First Annual Health Care Ethics Research Conference on March 21, 2014. The conference, designed to foster advanced academic discourse in fields related to health care ethics, allowed both undergraduate and graduate students to present research related to health care ethics to an interdisciplinary audience of about 80 participants.
