Undergraduate Minor

What Is Health Care Ethics?

STUDY ABROAD OPPORTUNITY:
Madrid Bioethics in Film

The minor in Health Care Ethics offers undergraduate students the opportunity to engage in discussion and examination of the ethical questions that arise in our complex health care system. Our courses ask questions like:

  • How should we define "death"?
  • Who should decide when to withdraw life-sustaining treatment?
  • How should we allocate donated organs?
  • What counts as a disease?

Questions and topics are examined from a theoretical perspective, as well as a practical perspective, through the active analysis of specific cases from a variety of health care fields, including medicine, nursing, public health, clinical research and the allied health professions.

What Should I Expect From Courses?

All HCE courses are small, discussion-based courses. Discussions are primarily case-based, meaning you get experience working through the actual challenges and issues faced by health care professionals, patients and families.
