Research and Internship Opportunities
The Department of Biomedical Laboratory Science is a national leader in opportunities for undergraduate students to engage in biomedical research. Research has been required in the undergraduate MLS curriculum since the foundation of the Program in 1929. IMS and CT students are not required to engage in research but are encouraged to do so. Faculty maintain ongoing research programs in areas of science and medicine. Research courses occur in the junior and senior years but underclassmen may elect to engage in research earlier.
Medical Laboratory Science and Cytotechnology students spend much of their senior year in the hospital setting observing and performing laboratory procedures under direct supervision. Clinical internship placements are guaranteed for all MLS and CT students.
Investigative and Medical Science students may elect to engage in shadowing experiences with professionals in their career path (i.e. physicians, dentists, veterinarians, physician assistants, pharmacists, etc.)
