Let’s Move! STL is an initiative that started in 2010 as a response to First Lady Michelle Obama’s call to action to address childhood obesity. At the direction of Mayor Francis G. Slay, the City of St. Louis signed on as a Let’s Move! city. The City of St. Louis Department of Health has taken the lead to make Let’s Move! STL a regional effort to get individuals moving and reduce obesity throughout our area. As we strive to eliminate obesity, this year’s theme and focus for advancement of the Let’s Move! STL initiative is striving to reduce the rate of obesity in our city 5% by the 2018.
There’s a role for everyone to play in reducing childhood obesity, including parents, elected officials from all levels of government, schools, health organizations, faith and other community-based organizations and private sector companies. Your involvement is key to ensuring a healthy future for our children.
