SLU Partners with Metro Theater Company – Summer 2014

‘New Kid’ Event Details: 9:30 a.m., November 25, Center for Global Citizenship
Summer At SLU 2014 is right around the corner and a number of new programs are being added this year, including a new theatre arts camp in partnership with Metro Theater Company. As part of the partnership, the office of summer studies is bringing a production of New Kid, Metro Theater Company’s current touring show, to the Center for Global Citizenship at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25.

New Kid, by Dennis Foon, explores issues of bullying and intolerance in a story about finding a friend in a new place. The play resonates with anyone who has ever felt new and reminds everyone about the empathy needed to accept those who are different. New Kid is a way to provide children, immigrant families and anyone who’s been “new” with a greater sense of belonging in the community. The play also supports regional efforts to create a more welcoming community for newcomers to St. Louis.

Students from St. Louis Language Immersion Schools, Grand Center Arts Academy and City Garden Montessori School, as well as Casa de Salud families, have been invited to this performance that includes a post-show conversation with the cast and creative staff following the show.

Additionally, the Saint Louis University community and their families are invited to attend this performance free of charge.

Saint Louis University engaged more than 10,000 participants through Summer At SLU programming this past year. For more information about this special performance or summer 2014 opportunities, contact Troy Turnipseed, director of summer studies, at turniptp@slu.edu.
