Tom -- I don't know you but we have met, years ago, at Mercy High School. I happened to find you on a Google search. I believe your dad introduced you once as Tom "Snake" Finan!

Your dad, Tom Finan, was my coach. I went to three high schools in three states due to parent's transfers, and think fondly about Coach Finan. He was the ultimate -- tough but kind, funny and wise. It's been 26 years this summer that I was in my final year at Mercy, about to move to Alabama after the season. His lessons still ring in my ears, and I remember him as a coach who gave a little guy a chance, and had faith in his players.

Dr Tom, I found this particularly fascinating and have tried to conduct a similiar experiment(minus the advanced tools you have) in the downtown Atlanta area. While I was on vacation in St Augustine I found a circa 1902 Rand McNalley map of Downtown Atlanta with many building outlines included. Using Google Maps and the Rand map I found some interesting discoveries myself. Thanks for sharing your findings and I enjoy your writings!

Hello Dr. Finan,

I wanted to leave a note to thank you for being such a remarkable role model for my daughter Katie Burke (ISG President). Choosing SLU for her undergraduate studies, her involvement in extra-curricular activities, and her on-campus job have made her Dad and me realize that her choice was "spot on"!

Please continue to inspire these young, impressionable, students and future leaders!

Have a wonderful holiday season!

Merry Christmas, Joni Burke
