Answers

Q. Do you do general dental work?

 A. We do not do any general dentistry such as fillings, crowns (caps), restorations, or oral surgery. For more information about clinics in your area that perform all types of dental services, please visit the Greater St. Louis Dental Society website at www.gslds.org or call their referral line at 314-569-0444. If you live in Illinois or close proximity to Alton, Illinois, Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine does have a dental school. Their clinic number is 1-888-328-5168, ext. 7000.

Q. Do you have a payment plan?

A. We have a payment plan for orthodontic treatment but fees for endodontic and periodontic treatment are collected at time of service.

Q. Do you need a written referral?

A. Referrals by your general dentist or clinic are required for root canals, gum disease, and implants but not for orthodontics.

Q. Do you do the permanent restoration after root canal treatment? If not, where would one go?

A. We do not do crowns or restorations. Those would be done in your dentist's office.

Q. Are there discounted fees for SLU alumni? Employees? Employee's? Spouse/Children?

A. A SLU employee discount is offered for all of our services.  A family discount is also offered for Orthodontics.

Q. Do you do extractions/remove wisdom teeth?

A. No. You would need to get an appointment with an oral surgeon or clinic that has an oral surgeon on staff.

Q. Do you take Medicaid (MO or IL)?

A. We do not accept Medicaid for our services.

Q. Can I use my insurance there?

A. We accept many types of dental insurance, but you would need to check to see if we are in or out of network for your insurance.

Q. Are you open on weekends or evenings? What are your hours?
A. We are an educational facility that is open Monday-Friday. Our offices are open from 8-4:30 but days and times of appointments vary depending upon when the students are available and the services required. Normal appointment times begin as early as 9:00 a.m. with the last appointment at 3:00 p.m. depending upon the amount of time needed.

Q. Do you do dentures?

A. We do not make dentures, but we do implants.

Q. Is there an age limit?

A. We treat all ages in our clinics.

Q. Are the providers students or dentists?

A. All of our students have dental degrees and are working towards a certificate in that specialty as well as a master's degree. They are supervised by faculty members from each specialty, with most faculty members having many years of clinical practice.

Q. Do you have a sliding scale?

A. We do not have a sliding scale for our fees. We have set fees that are discounted from the fees charged in the private sector. Except for orthodontic treatment, fees are collected at time of service.

Q. Are you a dental school?

A. We are not a dental school, but we do have an affiliation with Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine (SIU-SDM). Our Endodontic and Periodontic Programs are co-sponsored by SIU-SDM, meaning our students in those two programs spend part of their time at SIU and part of their time at SLU. SIU does accept patients from other states and their clinic phone number is 1-888-328-5168, ext. 7000.
