Life After SLU
Life as a student at Saint Louis University is hectic, fun, challenging and generally all-consuming. But even when you still have years of your college career stretching in front of you, it's not too early to start thinking about what comes next. That's where SLU's Student Success Center comes in.
What am I going to do with my life?
For students at the beginning of their college career, a commitment to the future starts in the classroom. Lifelong learning requires effective academic skills and habits that don't always come naturally. That's where the Department of Retention & Academic Success comes in. This office provides you with a team of educators dedicated to your success, offering supplemental instruction in every academic field as well as general writing skills. They can help you with everything from choosing a major (about 75% of college students change theirs at least once) to helping to revise that confusing monster of a term paper.
Career Exploration Resources
Once you do start to develop a clearer idea of what you want to accomplish academically, that's just the beginning of the road. Experiential education is a key component of a Saint Louis University education, so that means getting out there and finding the internships, fieldwork and volunteer opportunities to bridge the gap between the classroom and the rest of your life.
Professional development is a life-long process, so the career decisions you make in college are just the first of many that you'll make in your adult life. SLU's office of Career Services is available as a resource to help you explore your interests, skills, personality and work values, so that you can map out a career path that you can feel good about. Guided by the Jesuit mission, counselors help students make decisions that will connect the things they care most deeply about with the needs of a real world workplace.
No matter where you are in your career exploration, the Student Success Center has something for you. Stop by their offices on the third floor of the Busch Student Center and the first floor of the School of Nursing, or make an appointment online to start tapping into the resources SLU offers to make your future a successful one.
