Updates on Breaking Out of the "SLU Bubble"

As we begin a new semester, the SGA is promoting some updates to ongoing transportation initiatives.  In response to last June's Student Transportation Survey (See the results here!), both the SGA and Student Development have been working hard to improve student transportation options and community engagement.

During the past few years, students have often asked about receiving a Metro U-Pass, which would give them easier access to the public transportation system. Last year, the SGA Executive Board presented the idea of launching a U-Pass initiative at SLU to the University's administration.  University President, Dr. Pestello, agreed to allocate money from the University budget for a pilot program. Since last spring, SGA and SLU's Transportation Services have been meeting with Metro to work out the details of the new partnership.

We are pleased to announce that SLU will be launching a Metro U-Pass pilot program this semester for freshmen students. The freshmen class was selected for this pilot program due to its members being the newest Billikens to the City of St. Louis.

Learn more about the U-Pass pilot program by visiting slu.edu/SLUinthecity and keep an eye out for an article in the UNews.

The Saturday Shopping Shuttle continues to be heavily utilized!

As you may already know, the routes and times were alternated last semester to best benefit the riders. SLU SGA received student feedback about adding Walmart back to the route. They worked with the shuttle company, and were successful in adding Walmart to the Saturday Shopping route starting this semester. Click here for more info and updates.

Last semester, SGA provided special event shuttles to Soulard Farmers Market, the Forest Park Balloon Glow, and the St. Louis Hispanic Festival.

They are now taking suggestions for other community events happening this semester. Have an idea? Please email them at sga@slu.edu.

Higher purpose. Greater good.
