SLU Community Engagement Inventory

Billiken BEAMS (Building Engineering Awareness in Metro Saint Louis Schools)

Description: The Billiken BEAMS is an annual outreach program, that seeks to foster an interest in engineering amongst area middle and high school students. In addition, the program also helps Saint Louis University students understand the value of good citizenship and service. It promotes excellence in engineering and engineering technology education. The competition is a group-based project opportunity, in which high school students use their innovation to build a structure and then compete against other groups throughout the St. Louis area. The winning team designs, constructs and tests the most effective bridge model that meets competition evaluation criteria.
