Dr. Michael Wesch, the 2008 CASE/Carnegie U.S.
Professor of the Year for Doctoral and Research Universities,
will visit Saint Louis University on October 2, 2009. Dr.
Wesch's research focuses on the impact of social media and
technology on modern life. He is well known as the creator
of the short video A Vision of Students Today.

Small
Group Workshop: Participatory Learning
Friday,
October 2 from 10:00 to 11:30 am in The Grand Hall, 4th
floor of DuBourg
On
the morning of October 2, Dr. Wesch will conduct a small
workshop. In the workshop, Dr. Wesch will demonstrate participatory
learning and how digital tools can be used in the classroom
through three successful examples: a large intro course
(400+), a medium upper-level class (40 students), and a
small class (10-15 students).
Registration
is limited to Saint Louis University faculty, with two seats
being available per academic unit or department.

October 2 from 1:30 to 3:00 pm in AB Auditorium, Cook Hall.
On
the afternoon of October 2, Dr. Wesch will present "Mediated
Culture/Mediated Education," a cultural analysis of
the current state of Higher Education, some uses of Web
2.0 applications in the classroom, and ways to think about
the impact of the Web on global society, and how we can
use that understanding to create a better future.
This
event is open to faculty, staff and students, and counts
as one Effective Teaching Seminar for participants in the
CTE's Certificate in University Teaching Skills program.
Registration is not necessary for the afternoon event.
