- The American
Dietetic Association is
the nation's largest organization of food and nutrition
professionals. The website contains a wealth of
nutrition information for consumers and the media,
featuring approximately 5,000 pages of content
from news releases and consumer tips to Nutrition
Fact Sheets, consumer FAQs and the Good Nutrition
Reading List. Consumers seeking the services of
a registered dietitian can use the Find
a Nutrition Professional feature
on ADA's Web site.
- The Society of Behavioral Medicine is a multidisciplinary organization of clinicians, educators, and scientists dedicated to promoting the study of the interactions of behavior with biology and the environment, and the application of that knowledge to improve the health and well being of individuals, families, communities and populations.
- The North
American Association for the Study of Obesity(NAASO)
is committed to improving lives of those with obesity,
nurturing careers of obesity scientists and practitioners
and promoting the interdisciplinary nature of obesity
research and education.
- The CDC's
Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity (DNPA)
takes a public health approach to address the role
of nutrition and physical activity in improving
the public's health and preventing and controlling
chronic diseases. The scope of DNPA activities
includes epidemiological and behavioral research,
surveillance, training and education, intervention
development, health promotion and leadership, policy
and environmental change, communication and social
marketing, and partnership development.
- Obesity
in America is an informational
website for the public. It provides basic information
on obesity, trends, current research, and resources. The
website is provided by the Endocrine
Society and the Hormone
Foundation.

International Organizations
- The Association
for the Study of Obesity (ASO)
was founded in 1967 and is the UK's foremost organization
dedicated to the understanding and treatment of
obesity. The Association for the Study of
Obesity has three key objectives:
- To promote professional awareness of obesity and
its impact on health.
- To educate and disseminate recent research on the
causes, consequences, treatment, and prevention of
obesity
- To prioritize obesity and provide opinion leadership
in the UK.
- The International
Obesity Task Force (IOTF)
is a global network of expertise, a research-led
think tank and advocacy arm of the International
Association for the Study of Obesity. The IOTF is working
to alert the world to the growing health crisis
threatened by soaring levels of obesity. It works
with the World Health Organization, other NGOs
and stakeholders to address this challenge. The
IOTF's mission is to inform the world about the
urgency of the problem and to persuade governments
that the time to act is now.
- International
Journal of Obesity provides
a international, multi-disciplinary forum for the
study of obesity. The journal publishes basic,
clinical and applied studies and also features
a quarterly pediatric highlight.
