Clinical Laboratory Science Program
Clinical Laboratory Science Students:
Following two years of liberal arts and basic science courses and one year of pre-clinical professional coursework, clinical laboratory science students enter the practicum phase of the curriculum in a clinical setting under supervision.
Practicum placement is guaranteed for all CLS students who complete the junior year in good academic standing (2.5 or higher cumulative GPA and a 2.5 or higher GPA in clinical laboratory science courses).
Seniors spend 21 weeks in practicum during the fall semester senior year at a variety of affiliate hospital laboratories in the St. Louis area as well as distant sites. Currently, the department affiliates with over then local hospitals and a few distant sites.
* Sites outside of the St. Louis area. Students are responsible for expenses incurred with placement at distant sites. Special funds may be available to assist those students who demonstrate financial need.
During the spring semester of the senior year all clinical laboratory science seniors collaborate with faculty to develop and conduct a modest research project culminating in a formal scientific paper. Many of these projects have been presented at state and national professional conferences, some have won student research awards and some have also been published.
