Acolytes

The General Instruction of the Roman Missal defines the acolyte's role as “to serve at the altar and to assist the priest and deacon. In particular it is … to prepare the altar and the vessels.” An acolyte plays an intimate role in the celebration of the Eucharist. We experience a humility that can only come from a profound reminder that we are God's servants and a joy that comes from praying not just in words, but in actions as well.

Liturgy of the Word for Children

Liturgy of the Word for Children provides an opportunity for children in grades Kindergarten through seven to experience God's presence in the proclamation of the Word during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Liturgy. The children are called forward after the Opening Prayer. After the Presider greets the children they process to the Parish Center where they are divided up into four groups according to their grade level. The children return to the congregation following the Prayers of the Faithful.

Any child of school age is welcome to attend; no registration is required. With few exceptions, Liturgy of the Word is held every Sunday. There is no Liturgy of the Word for Children during the month of August.

The leaders of Liturgy of the Word with Children are parishioners who serve on a rotational basis. For more information, please contact Angie Doerr at 314-977-7302 or adoerr3@slu.edu.
