Description: The Department of Justice Services is responsible for serving and protecting the community by providing custody, supervision and guidance to those arrested persons who are mandated to the department's jurisdiction. The divisions of the department provide a full range of services. This includes intake services, pre-trial and sentenced confinement, work release, substance abuse treatment, mental health services and community corrections. The Department offers unpaid supervised practicums that are required to complete undergraduate and graduate degree programs in fields such as social work, criminal justice, counseling and related fields.

Internship Conditions: Minimum commitment is 150 hours.

Description: This practicum can be geared toward casework, group work, and community development. Students may counsel delinquent youth and their families, conduct interviews, write assessments and make recommendations, which are formally presented at Court hearings. Opportunities are also available to assist with program development in the community and to co-facilitate various youth groups within the Court setting.

Internship conditions: The Family Court of St. Louis County, Citizen Deputy Juvenile Officer (CDJO) Program is looking for applicants over 21 years of age. The student must complete an interview, an application, screening, and training. Screening consists of a County, State, and Federal criminal record check, reference checks, and a child abuse/neglect screen. Upon successful completion of the process, each prospective CDJO is sworn-in and considered an Officer of the Court. Due to the fact that the screening process may take some time applicants are encouraged to contact the agency 2-3 months prior to target start date.
