Katherine J. Mathews, MD, MPH is an Associate Professor in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Washington University and an Adjunct Associate Professor at SLU SPH. She has a background in public health, theology and international work. She currently serves as Chief Medical Officer at St. Louis ConnectCare, the outpatient specialty organization of the region's safety net healthcare system.She was formerly Co-Director of the Program for the Elimination of Cancer Disparities (PECaD) and Co-Principle Investigator of the NCI funded PECaD Community Networks Program (U01 CA114594) at the Siteman Cancer Center.

She has developed numerous community-based programs to:

1. Improve access and quality of cancer care for underserved populations
2. Create a participatory, disparities focused research portfolio
3. Improve minority participation in cancer clinical trials and
4. Enhance provider cultural competence.

In 2004 she was recognized nationally for this work when she was awarded the Herbert W. Nickens, MD, Faculty Fellowship from the AAMC. Dr. Mathews has extensive community relationships that range from grass roots level to high level/ high influence organizations. She also has broad based experience in bringing multiple community and academic stakeholders together to create novel and sustainable solutions for public health dilemmas. Because of this strong track record she has been able to expand the focus of these community relationships and partnerships from care delivery and policy change to include research and dissemination.
