Michael Panicola is Corporate Vice President of Ethics for SSM Health Care in St. Louis, Missouri. He is also Adjunct Professor of Health Care Ethics, Theological Studies, Health Management and Policy, and the Center for Health Care Ethics at St. Louis University. Previously, he held positions as Residential Counselor for developmentally disabled adults at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine, Minnesota and Pastoral Minister for Saint Peter's Catholic Church in Saint Cloud, Minnesota.

Michael has graduate degrees in theology and ethics. His master's degree came from St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota, while his doctorate degree is from St. Louis University.

Michael has published several articles on bioethics, appearing in such publications as the Journal of Perinatology, Theological Studies, Health Care Ethics USA, Health Progress, Hastings Center Report, the National Catholic Bioethics Quarterly, Ethics & Medics, and America. He is also co-author of a forthcoming book from St. Mary's Press entitled Introduction to Health Care Ethics: Theological Foundations, Contemporary Issues, and Controversial Cases. Michael has also presented various papers on bioethical issues at health care facilities, medical and nursing schools, universities, and conferences. His research interests are in moral theology, business ethics in health care, and bioethics, specifically issues at the beginning and end of life.

Michael is originally from Chicago, Illinois, and currently resides in St. Louis, Missouri. He has three children: Noah born in 1995; Grace born in 1998; and Ellie born in 2001.
