MHA Student Placement and Outcomes
The demand for highly-skilled health care management professionals exists both nationally and internationally in a wide variety of settings. Health care currently accounts for over 17 percent of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product, is the largest industry in the U.S. (and the second largest employer), and provides more than 11 million jobs domestically.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the field is expected to grow 23 percent over the next ten years and has a current median pay of $88,580 per year ($42.59/hour). The opportunity to be in a growing field with above average compensation and the ability to make a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of a large population of individuals makes field of health administration highly desirable.
Our location in the city of St. Louis provides access to one of the nation's most dynamic health care markets. St. Louis has four major health and hospital systems, two academic medical centers, the largest pharmacy benefit firm in the U.S., excellent physicians, and a unique model for safety net services for the under-served and uninsured.
SLU MHA graduates occupy senior management positions in a variety of healthcare settings, such as health and hospital systems, insurance companies, academic medical centers, physician practices, consulting firms and benefit-management organizations.
Recent MHA graduates have been very successful in securing health management fellowships and other key managerial positions across the spectrum of the health sector throughout the U.S. Roughly a third of graduates pursue administrative fellowships followed by non-fellowship positions in health systems, healthcare consulting and the practice of law related to the healthcare field.
The SLU MHA program conscientiously attempts to balance didactic instruction with experiential learning that makes use of the St. Louis location and strong national alumni base. Of the roughly 38-42 new students that come into the MHA, MHA/JD or MHA/MBA programs more than 95 percent of the student body makes it to graduation within the specified time frame for their respective program. We are proud of the depth and reach of alumni and are constantly looking to improve the training of those pursuing their education in the program.
Register today for an upcoming preview day to visit SLU's campus, and meet with faculty and current students.
