Withdrawal from a Class
To withdraw from a course before its completion, the student must consult his/her advisor and complete a Change of Registration form (pdf). Dates by which this must be completed and the schedule of possible tuition refunds are printed in the Academic Calendar for each semester. Failure to withdraw in a timely manner may result in a failing grade, the posting of a "W" on the student’s transcript, the loss of a tuition refund, or a combination of the preceding.

Tuition Refund
There is generally no tuition refund unless it is the first week of school. Any refunds are determined by the Office of the Registrar, not the School of Social Work.

Withdrawal or Leave of Absence from the Graduate Program
Students planning to withdraw temporarily from the program for one or more semesters should complete the Graduate School form, "Petition for time period extension to complete degree requirements" and give it to the Director of the program in which you are enrolled. The form should stipulate the reasons for the request and the semester in which the student plans to return. Any student who intends to withdraw permanently from the program should also complete this form.

Withdrawal from Courses or from the Undergraduate Programs

To withdraw from a course before its completion, the student must consult his/her program mentor or academic advisor and complete a Change of Registration form. Dates by which this must be completed and the schedule of possible tuition refunds are printed in the Schedule of Classes for each semester. Failure to withdraw in a timely manner may result in a failing grade, the posting of a "W" on the student's transcript, the loss of a tuition refund, or a combination of the preceding.

Students planning to temporarily withdraw from an undergraduate program for one or more semesters must send a letter requesting a leave of absence to the undergraduate program director, with copies to the student's program mentor and academic advisor. This letter should stipulate the reasons for the request and the semester in which the student plans to return.

Any student who intends to permanently withdraw from the program should also send a letter to the program director and advisor informing them of such intentions.
